We can offer you a journey of 7 or more days by the Coffee Region of Colombia. A MTB tour in the middle of the Coffee Cultural Landscape, declared by UNESCO as cultural heritage of mankind. - (on bike: 35 to 50 km per day and altitude between 900 to 2.400 m.a.s.l)
Coffee Cultural Landscape: "An exceptional example of a sustainable and productive cultural landscape that is unique and representative of a tradition that is a strong symbol for coffee growing areas worldwide - encompasses six farming landscapes, which include 18 urban centres on the foothills of the western and central ranges of the Cordillera de los Andes in the west of the country. It reflects a centennial tradition of coffee growing in small plots in the high forest and the way farmers have adapted cultivation to difficult mountain conditions."
Day One: Pereira (Risaralda) - Distance Approx. 36 kms; altitude gain 1.411 to 1.800 meters
This day will ride bike to the Vereda La Suiza where we will begin a quiet walk surrounded by beautiful trees and fascinating singing bird to a beautiful crystalline, pure and cold waterfall, Los Frailes, where we can appreciate the magnitude and beauty generated by a small falling more than 50 meters above.
We will also hopefully see or hear Howler monkeys, inhabitants of this area. On our continued descent, surrounded by beautiful lush trees back to the Corregimiento of La Florida. La Florida is a small town surrounded by fields of bananas, green onion, tomatoes, cilantro, and other vegetables. We eat a delicious lunch made with products grown locally
Day Two: Santa Rosa de Cabal (Risaralda) - Distance Approx. 43 kms; altitude gain 1.600 to 2.000 meters
This route is characterized sweeping views of the central mountain range and the large agricultural fields in the area. We will start the walking part of our tour in a thick tropical forest full of colors and surprising textures. After an hour and a half walk we arrived at the main attraction of the day, the spectacular waterfall “Don Lolo”.
Day Tree: Vereda Combia - Estación Pereira (Risaralda) - Distance Approx. 43 kms; altitude gain 1.200 to 900 meters
This is a path framed by large and beautiful crops of coffee, banana, pineapple and guanabana. We will be able to see and hear birds such as parrots, motmots and canaries among others. At Pereira Station, we will take a “witch”, local transportation that relies on a wooden pallet that has a bearing and moves on the rails of the old train – this a tour along the Cauca River full of excitement. Then we take another local transport named a “Garrucha” that is practically a basket in metal and wood suspended on steel cables that allows us to cross the Cauca River to the other side in the municipality of Belalcázar in Caldas.
Day Four: Alcalá (Valle del Cauca) - Quimbaya (Quindío) - Distance Approx.46 kms; altitude gain 1.000 to 1400 meters
Alcalá is a municipality of the department of Quindío, the most beautiful thing in this town are its large crops of fruit.
Quimbaya is a municipality in the western part of the department of Quindío. It is 20 km northwest of the departmental capital Armenia. The name of the city derives from the name of the Precolumbian culture that inhabited the area, the Quimbaya civilization. This day we will visit an exotic tropical flower farm.
Day Five: Filandia (Quindío) - Distance Approx.30 kms; altitude gain 1.400 to 1.900 meters It is a little town of artisans and coffee.
One of the most beautiful municipalities of Quindío, called by many "The illuminated Hill". This day we will sleep in a beautiful and typical coffee farm. We will visit some manufactures of handicrafts and will give a tour of the town knowing the ancient architecture.
Day Six: Salento (Quindío) - Cocora Valley - Distance Approx.32 kms; altitude gain 1.900 to 2.200 meters
It was the first settlement in Quindío of the modern era, and the first municipality founded in the department. This day we will visit a real process of coffee. The town is one of the major tourist attractions of Colombia, thanks to its peaceful nature, impressive scenery, easy access to the Cocora valley, and the retention of much of its original bahareque architecture typical of the eje cafetero region. This style of architecture is especially notable on the "Royal Road".
Day Seven: Return to Pereira (Risaralda) - Distance Approx.43 kms; altitude gain 1.900 to 1.400 meters
This day we will return to Pereira enjoying for last of the great Coffee Cultural Landscape.
